CHIANTI CLASSICO IS HISTORY AND BEAUTY

Fifty years have passed since Italo Zingarelli bought the “Le Macìe” estate at Castellina in Chianti.
His big dream, an emotional moment. A vision called Rocca delle Macìe.

HARMONY OF LAND AND NATURE

A LANDSCAPE, A SET,
A SCRIPT

When Italo Zingarelli encountered this corner of Chianti Classico it was a real case of love at first sight. Of overwhelming meaning. A series of gentle hills, with generously wooded contours, and Mediterranean vegetation everywhere. Unique scents, colours and atmospheres. All of this was immersed in the Chianti area, almost dominating it. And then there was the large ruin, once an inhabited hamlet, with its own special charm, at Le Macìe. Overlooking the whole valley. The perfect set for a man of the cinema like Zingarelli, for thinking, writing, and making the “film of his family”.

A HANDED-DOWN
PASSION, ALWAYS FACING FORWARD

Rocca delle Macìe has deep roots. Its mindset is steeped in strong values: ethical values that are interwoven with the land, social values like respect for work, people and family. These were the foundations for Italo Zingarelli’s dream, and the guidelines from which his children, with a few innovations, have drawn the present and future of this dynamic project.

“My father Italo managed to pass on his enthusiasm for Tuscany to us. Then, with patience and vision, he gave us an all-round view of wine: passion, culture, travel, nature, communication and economy. To learn to write that infinite story that ties wine to human life, and mother Earth".

ROCCA DELLE MACÌE
PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE…

Rocca delle Macìe covers a total of 500 hectares, including over 200 hectares of vineyards and 19 of olive groves, divided between the six estates owned in Tuscany. Designed, experienced and managed with skill and authenticity by the Zingarelli family, Rocca delle Macìe presents itself as a very solid and cohesive estate. Simultaneously flexible and consciously projected into the future, the estate’s dynamic vision is linked to three fundamental values: Territory, People, and Vineyards. Joining Sergio Zingarelli in the team today is the complete third generation of the Zingarelli family, whose task is to 'make new ideas happen'. First, his son Andrea, who is mainly involved in the cellar and vineyards; his daughter, Giulia, who is in charge of the hospitality sector; and his nephew, Fabio Cerri, in the sales department. A promising and innovative family project, a bold and targeted graft of the generations ranging from wines to agroecology, hospitality and gourmet cuisine. Never losing sight of protecting the territory and the environment through nature reserves and projects dedicated to the training and care of birds of prey, horses and dogs.

In 1998, the Zingarelli family landed in Maremma to explore an area where the winemaking tradition has ancient roots.

In 2003, a new property further strengthened Rocca delle Macìe’s presence in Maremma with the acquisition of Tenuta Casa Maria.

Hospitality

The doors of Rocca delle Macìe have been thrown open since its inception, offering a privileged opportunity to immerse oneself in the life and soul of a Tuscan wine-growing and -producing reality, devotedly cared for by the family for generations. In addition to the classic visits and tastings, the Zingarelli family’s accommodation facilities – Relais Riserva di Fizzano and Il Torrione – enable them to offer visitors a chance to stay in the heart of the Chianti Classico area in complete relaxation, immersed in a unique and unforgettable natural landscape. Since 2020 their hospitality offer has been enhanced by a significant addition: the gourmet restaurant ‘Passo dopo Passo Osteria’, run with sophisticated authenticity by chef Maurizio Bardotti.
