Rocca delle Macìe
has consolidated its presence in the province of Grosseto with
the acquisition of the Fattoria Casamaria in the prestigious Morellino
di Scansano DOC (Controlled Denomination of Origin) zone. The
farm extends over sixty-seven hectares, of which fifteen have
already been given over to vine cultivation. The entire planting
operation will cost over three million Euros. “The target
we are aiming at, ” says Sergio Zingarelli, President of
Rocca delle Macìe, “is to reach, by 2006, a total
of ninety hectares dedicated to vine cultivation on our Morellino
estates, where Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet and Syrah will all
be grown with a vine density of six thousand plants per hectare.”
Our recent purchase signals an expansion of our activities in
the Morellino di Scansano zone, which started with our acquisition,
back in 1998, of the eighty-hectare Fattoria di Campomaccione
estate. It already has 30 hectares under vine and a little olive
grove. However, there is still work to be done here, and we have
made plans for further planting on the remaining parts of these
estates and for the introduction of a highly sophisticated cellar
for the vinification of the grapes cultivated in this DOC zone,
which is undoubtedly the most characteristic zone in the Maremma
and is an area that has an extremely positive image internationally.
