On the 5th of
November, Rocca delle Macìe returns to what will be the
sixteenth Salone del Novello, the exhibition held annually in
Vicenza and dedicated to the promotion of the year’s vino
novello. Every year, the show - organized by the Vicenza conference
and exhibition promoter (Fiera di Vicenza) in collaboration with
the trade publication Civilta’ del Bere, and with technical
assistance from the Italian Sommeliers Association – brings
together around 180 wine producers from all over Italy just 24
hours before their vino novello is legally permitted to be released
onto the market.
In the city famous for the architectural designs of Andrea Palladio,
Rocca delle Macìe will unveil its own Novello 2003. This
wine, made primarily from Sangiovese grapes, displays a ruby red
color with violet reflections, and is fruity, well-balanced and
smooth. Bottled only a matter of days ago, at the end of October,
this year’s edition will have for the first time an orange
stopper made from silicone – a perfect match for the distinctive
design of the bottle. “The summer droughts and generally
high temperatures in recent months,” states Sergio Zingarelli,
President of Rocca delle Macìe, “have allowed the
bouquet of our Novello 2003 to evolve to a greater extent than
in preceding years. Indeed, this early development will be a feature
of all of this year’s wines.”
The Salone del Novello proper takes place on the 5th of November
between the hours of 10am and 8pm. The day before, the 4th, there
will be an afternoon session for the press and those who work
in the industry, during which the AGM of the General Council,
a meeting of the Italian Vino Novello Institute, and a technical
seminar will all be held. The gala evening will be blessed with
the presence of showgirl Matilde Brandi and cabaret artiste Beppe
Braida, and will include the awarding of a Special Prize to chef
Sirio Maccioni, owner of the famous Le Cirque 2000 restaurant
in New York, in recognition of his services to the Italian catering
industry. Producers and guests will enjoy a banquet lasting up
until the eagerly awaited deblocage at one minute past midnight.
