A wine-lover’s
dream weekend, courtesy of Rocca delle Macìe, kicks off
on Saturday 20th March at 5pm. Led by Rossana Bucciarelli, one
of our young winemakers, the events gets under way with a opportunity
to visit the wine cellars, followed by a brief wine tasting, before
guests move on to the Riserva di Fizzano restaurant, located in
the medieval village from which it takes its name. Here, at 8pm,
Matteo di Nauta will unveil the dishes he has prepared: the meal’s
first offering comes in the form of Tuscan canapès with
patè and lard, polenta crostino made with ragù,
sage and sautèed onions; these will be followed by a sampling
of vegetable soup served with golden fried bread and newly-pressed
oil, before a starter of pasta with wild boar ragù; the
main course will be constituted by a peppery Impruneta meat stew
with beans, after which there will be a selection of seasoned
cheeses, before finishing up with a Florentine sponge cake accompanied
by Vin Santo del Chianti Classico. The jewel in the crown throughout
the meal will be the free-flowing Roccato, a wine that has picked
up a plethora of awards both in Italy and beyond. The main dish
in each course will be accompanied by one of four vintages (1997
to 2000), and the winemaker herself will illuminate guests with
a running commentary throughout the meal. After dinner, anyone
who would like to stay on in the village can take advantage of
the warm, welcoming apartments of the Fizzano retreat. The total
cost of the visit, inclusive of wine tasting, dinner, overnight
stay and breakfast on Sunday 7th21strch is €95 per person.
Without the overnight stay, the price per person is €50.
