” … and not far away, there was a stream of Vernaccia wine, the finest that was ever drunk, without a single drop of water in it”
so said Maso when describing to Calandrino the fantastic land of Bengodi in a novella of the Decameron. But it was not just Boccaccio who inserted this wine in the wonderful scenarios of his tales – in actual fact, Vernaccia di San Gimignano is referenced time and again in works by everyone from Dante and Pope Paul III’s cupbearer Sante Lancerio to Lorenzo Medici ‘il Magnifico’, Ludovico Sforza ‘il Moro’ and Michelangelo Buonarrotti ‘the Younger’. Our Vernaccia is a very enjoyable wine with a straw-yellow color and golden reflections. The aroma is refined and delicate, with fruity and floral overtones, whereas the palate is dry, well-balanced and full-flavored. The almond scent of the finish is highly characteristic.
